• Chinese Fir is often filled with knots and sap pockets that weaken joints and can lead to cracking or leaking.
• UK Fir is brittle, splinters easily, and can warp when exposed to moisture.
• Farmed Cedar, while lightweight and aromatic, is typically felled young, making it softer and less durable than mature woods – especially in hive components subject to wear.
• New Zealand Pine is sustainably sourced, dense and stable, and most importantly, knot-free – giving your hive a smooth finish and long working life.
